Guided Montana Elk Hunting Trips

Royal Tine Outfitters successful guided elk hunting

We offer limited elk hunting trips on the family cattle ranch and adjoining USFS land in southwestern Montana and have done so since 1994. This beautiful ranch lies in the foothills of the Sapphire Mountains in hunting district 211. This ranch is over 5,000 acres of prime grass meadows with plenty of pine forest cover and flowing springs and creeks. The ranch is bordered by forest service, and we are also permitted to hunt several thousand acres of the adjoining USFS land.

We will access the elk hunting areas with 4×4 vehicles then stalk by foot through this game-rich country to provide a terrific elk hunt with lots of action. Terrain would be considered mild to moderate and elevation is 5800 ft. You should expect weather that varies from 0 degrees with snow to 50 degrees and sunny blue skies, so dress in light to medium layers.

We have a wall tent style camp that you can drive to. We have comfortable wall tents set up with stoves, lanterns, cots and sleeping pads and plenty of firewood to keep you warm at night. We get up early, have a hot breakfast, and hunt until about 11 in the morning. At this time, we come back to camp, enjoy a hot lunch, take a short afternoon nap, and head back out for the evening hunt at 3pm.

Our elk hunts are 2 hunters per 1 guide and we only have 2-4 hunters in camp at a time so other hunting pressure is very minimal for your group. We take no more than 12 hunters per year total between the archery and rifle seasons to keep the hunting good and provide excellent opportunities for you to harvest an animal.

We have a cook that provides fantastic home-style meals. You will also enjoy the relaxing, tranquil atmosphere and spectacular Montana scenery right from camp.

Why book your elk hunt with Royal Tine?

  1. We have excellent elk numbers; we are currently about 25% over objective on population numbers as determined by the Montana FWP.
  2. We have the knowledge and experience! We were born here and have hunted this ranch and the surrounding land our entire lives and have been licensed hunting guides since 1994.
  3. We limit the number of hunters in camp at a time and limit the number of hunters taken per season. We do not over-hunt the area.
  4. We have a huge area to hunt. On top of the privately owned 5000 acres, we can also hunt out on the adjoining Forest further than you could walk in a day.

We offer 2 hunts in a 6-week season in archery, making only the best weeks of the rut available for the most action-packed archery adventure. We offer 3 hunts in a 5-week season in rifle, so the elk hunting pressure is minimal. Over the last 15 years we have enjoyed a very high success rate on elk! Bull elk usually age in the 2 ½ to 3 ½ year-old range, but there is always a chance at a mature old bull.

Due to our high demand and nearly 100% repeat clientele, we rarely have openings for our “general elk hunts.”
